Fix 1: Update the game
You may hear it again and again, but download and install the latest game patches may help solving many issues. Sometimes the release of game patches was aimed to fix existing issues like crashing, freezing and connection issues. So when you encounter a critical problem in MHW, updating the game should be your go-to option if there’s any update you can find.
Normally, if you play MHW on Steam you will receive the notification of updating but you may miss it when you have a connection issue. And it’s no harm to check.
Fix 2: Play with Windowed mode
Play Monster Hunter World with windowed mode and disable Steam overlay may help you fix the disconnect issue.
HOW: Press the Alt + Enter key on your keyboard when the game is in full screen.
Disable Steam overlay:
- Run Steam.
- Click Steam in the left corner and select Settings.
- Select In-Game in the left pane and uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game. Click OK.
- Run MHW.
Fix 3: Looking for server from your region
Your geographical location and the people you connect to would affect stability. This is one of the possible elements of the disconnect issue.
This means if you’re from the USA trying to connect to someone from Japan, you would have a latency thing and have a bad time. So, you can look for servers from your region or host your own and let people join you.
Fix 4: Add “-nofriendsui -udp” OR “-nofriendsui -tcp” as Steam launch options
The issue could be on Steam. Steam updates the Friends UI but it doesn’t work well with Monster Hunter World. So this fix could help you force Steam use the older Friends UI to solve the problem.
- Right-click on Steam and click Properties.
- In the Target field, add the text.
Note: Add a space after the existing quotation mark.-nofriendsui -udp OR -nofriendsui -tcp
- Click Apply > OK.
- Relaunch Steam and check the connection.
Fix 5: Set Steam friends offline and connect via ID
It’s possible that the disconnect issue is related to the Steam Friends lists. But log out of Steam Friends will make it harder to have people join you.
In this case, you can send your ID to your friend, then set Steam Friends to offline. After that, you can connect with them through ID.
