Fix 2: Check your Internet connection
Game lagging usually refers to slow response time, high ping, or high latency in gameplay. It’s a network issue, so you may need to check your Internet connection. Below are a few things you should look at:
- If you’re using Wi-Fi, try switching to a wired connection. It’s usually more reliable and stable. If it’s not possible for you to use a wired connection, make sure your connection is not interfered with by overcrowding. Try to disconnect the used devices from your Wi-Fi at the moment, which can be helpful for lag issues.
- Try to power cycle your router and modem. Unplug the power cables from your router and your modem, leave them disconnected for at least 30 seconds, then plug the cables back into both devices. When your Internet is working again, check if your game is still laggy.
- If you have low-speed Internet, it could lead to an unstable Internet connection. You can google “Internet speed test” and pick a tool to test your Internet speed. However, when your Internet connection is unreasonably slow, consider contacting your Internet provider for help.
If your Internet connection works fine but your game is still laggy, move on to the next fix.
Fix 3: Update your graphics driver
An outdated or faulty graphics driver could lead to lag issues for the Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood. You may want to make sure your graphics card driver is up-to-date and functioning properly.
One way to keep your video card driver up-to-date is to manually update it via Device Manager. If Windows suggests your driver is up-to-date, you can still check if there’s a newer version and update it in Device Manager. Go to the manufacturer’s website, and search for the latest correct driver. Be sure to choose only drivers that are compatible with your Windows version.
Automatic driver update – If you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to update your driver manually, you can, instead, do it automatically with Driver Easy. Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct driver for your exact graphics card and your Windows version, then it will download and install it correctly:
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
- Click the Update button next to the flagged graphics card driver to automatically download the correct version of the driver, then you can manually install it (you can do this with the FREE version).
Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. (This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All.)
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at support@drivereasy.com.
Restart your PC for the new driver to take effect. If updating your graphics driver doesn’t solve your problem, try the next fix.
Fix 4: Flush DNS cache
If you use your ISP’s (Internet Service Provider) default DNS server, you may suffer from a crowded cache, which could lead to lag issues for ESO: Blackwood. One thing you can do is to flush your DNS cache:
By flushing your DNS, your DNS cache will be cleared. When your PC needs to access a website, it’ll need to obtain the address from the DNS server again. This may solve the lag issues for the game if the DNS cache data was invalid or corrupt. Here’s how:
- Press the Windows logo key and R on your keyboard to invoke the Run box.
- Type cmd, then press Shift and Enter at the same time. If prompted for permission, click Yes.
- Copy ipconfig /flushdns, and paste it in the pop-up window. Then press Enter.
- Your DNS cache is successfully cleared.
If flushing your DNS doesn’t solve your problem, try the next fix.
Fix 5: Disable your add-ons
Add-ons absolutely make ESO: Blackwood more fun, but some corrupted or outdated add-ons may have caused your game to lag. You may want to take a look at your add-ons, if you’ve installed any, to solve the lag issues. Here’s how:
- Launch the Elder Scrolls: Blackwood. In the submenu on the left side of your screen, click ADD-ONS.
- Uncheck the box of each add-on to disable it. Once you’ve disabled your add-ons, restart the game to check if it’s still laggy.
- If your problem is solved after the add-ons are disabled, then you know some of them caused the problem. You may enable your add-ons in a group of three and test the lag issues. Repeat these steps until you find the problematic add-on(s).
If your add-ons don’t seem to be the cause of your problem, try the last fix.
Fix 6: Lower your in-game graphics quality
One more thing you can try to solve the lag issues for ESO: Blackwood is to lower your graphics quality in-game. Resources that have been used for maintaining higher graphics quality could be relocated so you get a lower latency. Here’s how:
- Launch the Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood. On the left side of your screen, click SETTINGS.
- Under the VIDEO tab, tweak the settings to lower your in-game graphics quality. You’re welcome to modify as you like, or refer to our recommendations below:
Display Mode: Fullscreen
Vertical Sync: Off
Anti-Aliasing: Off
View Distance: 0 – 1/3 of the value
Shadow Quality: Off
Water Reflection Quality: Off
